Essex boards reach consensus on full-time fire chief, dissolve engineers board
Board of Fire Engineers · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Essex selectmen and fire engineers near consensus on full-time chief position. The joint meeting heard Finance Committee Chairman Jodi Harris report a $120,000 salary budget plus $40,000 benefits, with the position eliminating the current second day shift. Town Administrator Brendhan Zubricki outlined a selection process modeled on the recent police chief hire, projecting a February 2027 appointment that would allow participation in the FY28 budget.
A Fall Town Meeting vote to dissolve the Board of Engineers under MGL Chapter 48, Section 42a is required to proceed.
