Planning Board approves trees removal at Choate and Apple streets

Planning Board · Meeting of July 15, 2026

ESSEX — The Essex Planning Board unanimously approved removal of up to 19 shade trees and relocation of 15 feet of stone wall at 30 Apple Street for an alternate access route to the transfer station, contingent on survey requirements to minimize tree removal and preserve trees where possible; two residents raised concerns about safety and tree preservation during public comment. The board simultaneously approved removal of one deteriorated pine tree at 23 Choate Street following an abutter letter of support. The board also voted unanimously to submit a letter of support for the town's updated Open Space Plan, incorporating language recommending the plan as reference material for future master plan development.
