Finance Committee approves police overtime transfer

Finance Committee · Meeting of January 27, 2026

Essex Finance Committee unanimously approves $13,046 reallocation from police officer salaries to overtime funding. A full-time officer's unexpected August 2025 resignation created staffing gaps; the position has since been filled but overtime costs reached 77 percent of budget as of January 21. The reallocation from vacancy-period salary savings reflects actual expenses and marks a departure from standard practice.

The Committee also commenced FY27 budget review, demonstrating a ClearGov Digital Budget Book module designed to automate public-facing budget reporting.
