Finance Committee approves minutes, reviews budget year spending

ESSEX — Finance Committee reviews FY26 spending and discusses $6 million sewer project funding strategy. Chair Jodi Harris led the Committee in approving corrected prior minutes unanimously and reviewing year-to-date expenditures, noting particular concerns about DPW snow and ice operations exceeding budget. Line-item transfers totaling $5,313.09 were reviewed: $3,313.09 to Police for prisoner watch overtime due to increased criminal activity, and $2,000 to Assessors for clerical data-entry support.
Committee members expressed support for using $2 million to $2.5 million in accumulated betterment interest funds to offset the anticipated $6 million FY28 sewer upgrade project.
