Finance Committee approves FY27 budget, Fire Ambulance funding

Essex Finance Committee approves FY27 budget with Fire and Ambulance allocations. Chair Jodi Harris and the Finance Committee unanimously approved Fire and Ambulance budgets of $636,195 and $172,660 respectively after reducing Fire Department expenses by approximately $43,000 through adjustments to administrative hours, training, and equipment costs. The committee also unanimously approved $32,000 in transfers from Finance Committee reserves to address Fire Department FY26 payroll and training shortfalls through April.
The FY26 Snow and Ice deficit of approximately $130,000 will be funded from free cash, with the town maintaining a certified free cash balance of approximately $650,000 and proposed allocations of approximately $342,000.
