Board Approves First Full-Time Deputy Fire Chief Position
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of February 23, 2026
Essex Board approves first full-time Deputy Fire Chief at $105,000 to $120,000 annually. Town Administrator Brendhan Zubricki recommended the creation of a management position to handle administrative functions and emergency response for the Fire Department, which has operated without full-time staff. The Board chose the Deputy Chief option over a full-time hourly firefighter position costing up to $80,000 plus benefits.
The Board unanimously approved the position and also increased wage ranges for two Council on Aging staff positions: the Volunteer and Activities Coordinator to $22.00 to $27.00 per hour and the Outreach Coordinator to $23.00 to $29.00 per hour based on comparisons with other municipalities.
